Upstairs at the Amersham Arms we will hosting the beautiful photo collage art of Steve Burgess (aka Burgess the Rhymer) and hopefully getting him to read some of his poems too if we’re lucky! We’ll also be having readings and performances, more info to come! For now check out Steve’s work here and if you’re into a bit of poetry you must go along on the first tuesday of each month to the Three Kings Pub in Clerkenwell for Y Tuesday, which Steve runs with amazeballs poet, Ceri May!
SO! The date is set Sunday 11th November 2012, at The Amersham Arms, New Cross. Right now we have Steve Burgess (aka Burgess the Rhymer) doing an exhibition of his ethereal photo montages and hopefully curating some poetry. Alex Wrekk and her touring gang of zinesters from Portland, Oregon, Canada and Sheffield will be doing some zine readings. Dimitri Antorka-Pieri will be holding another drawing experiment with live noise, and we’ll have stalls of zines, comix and hopefully cupcakes! If we’re lucky some North London Knitters will come and host a little knitting circle in the bar! Oh, if you want a table, apply NOW! It’s pretty much gonna be first come first served as we’re getting close to the event. It’ll be £10 for a whole table and £5 for a half with a free communal table if you only have one or two things. Please think of others when you apply and only ask for what you can fill. We want to give as many people a chance as possible… and oh yeah, if you said you’d help out, expect an email! Thanks to Russell Taysom for the AWESOME flyer.
Love all round.
We will be hosting our fourth monthly Zine Meet Up, on Wednesday 11th April 2012 from 7pm at the Amersham Arms.
The meet ups have been a really good way for artists to meet, have a doodle together, show each other their work and to be around other artists in the area.
We have them upstairs at the Amersham and its got some nice wall space and often has shows and events, so this month we’ll be having a ONE NIGHT ONLY Exhibition of photographic artist Viv Todor!
Come along and see some of Viv’s awesome work and hang out with her, and the rest of the SELondon Zinesters! See you there!
the next SE London Zine meet up is on Wednesday 14th March at the Amersham Arms in New Cross, starting at 7pm. We’ll be chatting about our work and ideas, maybe doing some drawing… If anyone has any ideas about drawing games etc please post them up as comments below, or on our facebook page. But heres one to get the ball rolling… if everyone brings one image (drawn, cut from a magazine, photocopied, scribbled…) and a line or two of unrelated text (written by you, cut out of a favourite book, comic etc) then we can put them in a lucky dip and try and riff off the things we get? Anyway, all are welcome. If you have any zines/comics/books/work please bring it along, its nice to get feedback about your work…
see you there,
After having an absolutely WICKED time hosting our KIDS MAKE ZINES workshop at the New Cross People’s Library (New Cross Road, London SE14 6AS) , we’re heading back for another mini workshop this evening to celebrate World Book Day! From 6pm, we’ll be on hand at their Big Book Swap, helping kids make mini books and zines!
Here are some photos from last time:
Aside from being just plain fun, zine-making can be a wicked creative, emotional and intellectual outlet for anyone at any age, which is why we are super stoked to announce our upcoming Kids Make Zines workshop at the New Cross People’s Library!
We’re inviting under 12’s far and wide to pop by the library between 11am and 3pm on Thursday the 16th and to come have a go at making zines with some of the South East London Zines team. We’ll be armed with plenty of examples (from perzines to odes to our favourite things) and all the drawing and collage materials needed for kids to put together their own zines. We’re super stoked for the workshop and hope that it’ll motivate kids to continue to share and swap and self publish their own work afterwards. See you there!
